i can only speak for myself, but i got every one of my tattoos (yes, even the pizza and pretzel tats on my wrists) as a reminder and as a signifier of things that i find important. and i definitely got them knowing that they'd be there for a long time--that's kind of the point!

one thing i can't figure out, though: is the sentence about pretending kink didn't exist prior to the AIDS crisis a bit? because that didn't sit well with me.

That was bonkers. One of several truly wack claims that I didn't even bother getting into. It would be news to the Marquis de Sade that BDSM was invented by Millennials. It would also be news to many parents of Boomers that Millennials invented blaming their parents for how they turned out

Totally agreed that "literary fiction" generally doesn't transcend genre distinctions the way it believes it does, especially where the publishing marketplace is concerned. And yeah, the tattoo thing hardly feels new. So many of the things Moore is trying to pin on Millennials were said of Boomers themselves
